To be eligible for DCTAG, an applicant must reside in the District of Columbia at least 12 months prior to the start of the first year at a college. Full eligibility requirements can be found in the DC Code, Title 38, Chapter 27 and BY-law DC, Title 29, Chapter 70. In the District of Columbia, the term domicile has the same meaning as the term “residence” when used to verify eligibility to enroll in the district`s public schools. Are children of undocumented parents eligible if they are U.S. citizens or legal residents? Yes, if the student meets the eligibility criteria of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and their parents are based in Washington, DC. Eligibility criteria can be found under studentaid.gov/understand-aid/eligibility. Due to COVID-19, some schools may only have distance learning this fall. Will DCTAG continue to support teaching? If a student attends a recognized DCTAG college or university, online courses are covered by DCTAG if public tuition fees are in effect outside the state and all other requirements apply to the public or private college or university. Many students who complete the DCTAG application online can link the corresponding D-40 tax return to the application to prove compliance with residency and income requirements. This process should be the main option for most families when sharing tax information with DCTAG. Please contact your student`s DCTAG advisor for help and assistance if needed.
If you`re in school, visit regularly and work to meet your graduation requirements. The information you share on your FAFSA is used to calculate your EFC. Schools use the CFE to determine your federal student eligibility and financial support. If you have an FSA ID (username and password) and your FAFSA information has been processed, you can log in to fafsa.gov to view the SAR information, whether or not you have submitted the FAFSA form online or paper or provided an email address. Note: The success of DC OneApp does not guarantee funding for the award. Funding is subject to annual funding approved and provided by the District of Columbia. A ward of the Court or district of the District of Columbia is a person (usually a minor) who has a court-appointed guardian to care for and assume responsibility for that person. In some cases, the guardian may be the District of Columbia. Owner institutions refer to educational institutions operated by private for-profit corporations. In all situations, DCTAG recipients are limited to a maximum of six years to receive awards. Are there family income guidelines? Yes, the student`s family`s annual taxable income must be below the income thresholds described in osse.dc.gov/dctag. If you have any questions, please contact your DCTAG consultant. By signing the APP, the institution undertakes to fully comply with the laws, regulations and guidelines applicable to the DCTAG program. After the participation certification, the institution must manage the DCTAG funds prudently and appropriately. If DC OneApp has not been able to recover your taxes and you cannot obtain a certified or filed and completed D-40 tax return, remember that you can file other domicile verification forms on the checklist of required supporting documents. Can I download a copy of my DCTAG Awards Letter? To retrieve the DCTAG reward letter, the student must log in to their DCTAG application (in oneApp), click on the Correspondence tab, and then click on the reward letter to view, forward, email and/or print the DCTAG reward letter.
In addition, DCTAG has added the ability for students and families to submit submitted and completed tax documents in addition to the certified tax documents for that application year. A copy of the parents`/guardians` taxes may be submitted along with other required documents. Tax documents submitted must be signed and dated to be accepted. Students and families should consider college costs that are not related to tuition and tuition at the college or university they attend when considering using their financial support. The cost to the student or family that goes beyond tuition and fees may include: off-campus rent and other housing costs such as utilities and living expenses such as food, laundry or transportation (bus fare, gas, parking check-in, return flight). DCTAG encourages families and students to create a budget each semester to determine the costs students will be responsible for over the next three or four months and what they may need during that time. To participate in the DCTAG, which is regulated and funded by Congress, an eligible post-secondary institution must have an ongoing DCTAG Program Participation Agreement (PPA) signed by the institution`s President, CEO or Chancellor and the authorized representative of the DCTAG program. Information about renewals and replacement cards can be found at the following links: University costs and your DCTAG premium may change due to certain things – tuition fees, expected family contribution and your enrollment level (full-time or part-time). There is no eligibility to participate during half-time).
County law requires that all vehicles housed and operated in the district be registered in the District of Columbia. If you move to the district, have a valid registration from another jurisdiction, and are not eligible for reciprocity, you have 60 calendar days from the date you live in Washington to register your vehicle with DC DMV. You must first convert your out-of-state driver`s license to a District of Columbia driver`s license or a non-driver`s license. If you are eligible for reciprocity between students, diplomats, active military personnel, part-time residents, members of Congress, or president-appointed driver privileges with your home state or jurisdiction and you wish to receive the District of Columbia labels, you must first obtain a DC DMV driver`s license or ID card. Ultimately, please contact your college or university`s bursar`s office or grants office to inquire about the process of calculating and issuing refunds if you are a student who believes you should receive a refund cheque based on your entire financial aid program. What is DCTAG and what does it cover? The DCTAG program (D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant) helps eligible students attend a recognized public college or university by providing up to $10,000 per year to offset the difference between state and non-state tuition fees. Eligible students attending a recognized private college in Washington, D.C., or a historically recognized black college or university in the United States can receive up to $2,500 per year. Partner colleges and universities should refer to this basic process to understand the disbursement of funds to the student accounts of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). Federal law requires applicants who receive DCTAG scholarships to reside in the District of Columbia. Since individuals can obtain a P.O. Box in the district without proving residency, OSSE does not consider a P.O. Box to be an acceptable address. Preparing for DCTAG means gathering the information you need for the application and performing a few extra steps. You and/or your family will need to fill out your taxes, file your FAFSA, and possibly get documents from other DC agencies.
